Even if this KORG volca mixer is fake, you’ll want it anyway

Let’s be honest: it’s a bit of a mystery why KORG has’t already shipped a mixer. KORG volca series customers seem to snap up every single volca model the Japanese maker can cook up. That leaves them with a bunch of toys with stereo minijacks and no way to mix them together other than buying compact mixers by the likes of Behringer and Mackie. So, what we’re looking at here is either an actual leaked image of an upcoming KORG volca mix, or someone’s mock-up of what they wish that would be. Either way, same result: yeah, you probably kind …

A New Lab Opens Music Making to People with Learning Disabilities

Let’s face it: the initial audience for the first version of music tech is often the developers. That impulse to build something for yourself is a perfectly reasonable one. But music technology is constantly producing new ways of creating music, and that means it has to learn quickly. Unlike, say, a guitar, it can’t build on centuries of experience. And if the industry and music technology community are to consider how to reach more people, why not go beyond just average markets? Why not open up music making to people who have been left out? If music making is an …

Deckadance 2 Hits Beta; FL’s DJ Cousin is Packed With FX and Envelopes, VST Support

What would happen if Traktor DJ and a KAOSS Pad had a love child, who went to school at Ableton and came home full of automation envelopes and triggers? Well, maybe something like this. Certainly, the results would be a DJ tool the likes of which only FL “Fruity Loops” Studio maker Image Line would dream up, in a demo video only they would make. It’s beta 2 of Deckadance, the underdog Mac/Windows DJ app that’s surprisingly full of functionality. And while this isn’t the first DJ software to do sampling and effects, those features are now tied to some …

LiveFX: Touchable Effects on the iPad – Any Source, AudioBus App, 12 Years After KAOSS [Videos]

It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since the introduction of Korg’s influential KAOSS Pad. Now, Dutch developer Victor Bergen Henegouwen gives a nod to the Korg hardware with a new iPad app. And Victor writes CDM to let us know it’s hit the iTunes Store now. Like the original KAOSS Pad, you can use any instrument or source, in a way that could appeal to DJs, musicians, and producers alike, and control effects with a sweep of your finger. But in the context of an iPad, LiveFX adds multi-touch control, free mixing of parameters, and the ability for …

Korg’s Kaossilator 2, Mini Kaoss 2: Handheld Sonic Fun That’s Not an iPhone

Photo: Marsha Vdovin for CDM. Remember when electronic sound gear hid in hulking, rack-sized cases? Korg’s Kaossilator series had already begun shrinking the desktop KAOSS Pad gear, but even the first-generation Kaossilator wouldn’t fit in your pocket, given its square shape and corners. (Well, unless you were wearing overalls.) The Kaossilator 2 and Mini Kaoss Pad 2, on the other hand, are scaled perfectly to your hand and would tuck neatly into a pocket in your pants or bag. And while I know some readers were hoping for a new Pro addition to the KAOSS line, these little bundles of …

One More Teaser: KORG Kaoss in Store?

I think I’m going to have to start teasing random projects I’m doing, like taking a picture of the corner of a dirty dish before I do the dishes, or showing a corner of my shoe before I tie them in the morning. But here’s one more teaser for you, especially since Americans today have the day off. One reader tips us off to an image inserted in iKaossilator. It sure looks like a new KAOSS product. Aaron lazytrap writes some reasonable speculation: New KP, red & yellow = Kaossilator+KP in one h/w box? New `tribe (play/stop buttons)? Hrmn. I’m …

A Free Beatbox Plug-in, with Interactive KAOSS Pad KP3 Control

There’s a special love among certain Ableton Live users for the Korg KAOSS Pad KP3, Korg’s lovely and capable sampling/effects box. Al, aka DJ Chinkial (see his trippy MySpace page) has a free VST for free as a holiday gift to us all (Windows-only). The basic idea: make a beatbox plug-in for your computer, using the KP3 as outboard controller, complete with visual feedback. (If you don’t have a KP3, you can use any controller, minus the blinkie lights – monome hack, anyone?) The results are very wonderful: the KP3 becomes a synth drum machine. The only problem: some bugs …

Updated KAOSSilator Album Link; CDM Asks, Where Do You Host Your Music Files?

You liked Gary Kibler’s all-Korg KAOSSilator album just a little too much, and his bandwidth is gone. So, if you’ve had any trouble getting at the music, we’ve got a brand new link on ReverbNation. But that raises another question. As it happens, CDM community member FauxAudio was just asking about hosting music files on our forums: online audio host – reccomendations? So far, in the running: Amazon S3 (and as I noted, Yahoo just opened up their player tool) musicane.com (also sells albums) payloadz.com (ditto) Twango, which also hosts video and still images but supports an embeddable audio player …
