“It’s time for heroes” – that sentiment sounds about right.
Our friend, producer Sofia Kourtesis, returns this week with a new remix releasing today, and a mix for us. And they’re both richly sentimental and gorgeous.
First, there’s Sofia’s inventive remix of “Cool Kids” by Me Succeeds. It’s free-flowing and spontaneous, dense but magical, coming at a time when so many productions feel overly mechanical or self-consciously dark. The vocals are somehow nicely dissonant on top of those thick layers. And there’s an additional spoken element – taken from her uncle, sampled and reversed.
The remix is out on Ki Records – that’s the label of Christian Loffler, a German imprint but dubbed with the Japanese word for tree.

And then there’s a mix Sofia has made for you fine folks here at CDM. It’s not a holiday mix per se, but it is full of so many of our favorite things. (Aphex Twin and Avalon Emerson, for sure.)
Take a listen – I love this one, selection and mix:
