Announced by tuneful toms and then a flurry of dense percussion recalling his jazz lineage, Flying Lotus is back with new music, accompanied by the soaring soulful vocals of Neo-Soul and R&B grand diva Erykah Badu. It’s likely to be a major landmark of this year’s record releases when it arrives at the beginning of October, but you can hear the first track of “Until The Quiet Comes” now via YouTube, below, or on Warp.
Onto the release, you can preorder now and get a digital download of the single, with full-color vinyl and collectors’ vinyl or an 8-panel digipack from Warp.
The surprise is that this is a packed 18-track LP. A number of notable collaborations from FlyLo friends make their return:

Speaking of revisiting FlyLo past, since the artist is notoriously camera shy, I think it’s best to return to a wonderful and personal interview from 2010 for Belgian blog and label On Point:
Taken backstage, it gives a real insight into Steve the person, and how he thinks. In fact, I wholeheartedly support cutting back on interviews to do the few, like this one, that feel like a genuine conversation. Also from that same year: FlyLo became the interviewer rather than interviewee in a telling conversation with Hyperdub, London-based Sara Abdel-Hamid aka Ikonika for XLR8R in a great read.
