Revenge of the Nerd: Look Mum No Computer, aka Sam Battle, will represent his country in Eurovision this year. And just like that, 100% of us are tuning into Eurovision and rooting for the UK. (Sorry, ‘schland.)

What’s great about this is that Look Mum No Computer is already beloved for his musical body of work and his adventures in technology, from Furby organs to 1000-oscillator megadrones to Sega MegaDrive synths and a flamethrower hoover. I cringed seeing media outlets refer to “YouTuber” or “content creator” — look, back in the day, we still called TV actors actors, not “Cathode Ray Tube image signal producers.” Wait, no — terrible example, that would have been cool. Sam has done epic engineering work, and California tech companies just get the privilege of broadcasting it through the Interwebz.

And it’s equally lovely that Eurovision almost certainly will be just one adventure among many. Here he is on a boat:
