Something unusual happened at the E3 gaming conference this year: the story that the public was supposed to get (slicker next-gen graphics) got upstaged by the story of controlling games in fun new ways, courtesy Nintendo. In an age when everyone might seem tied to conventional ways of controlling software in games and computers alike (game pads, mice, QWERTY keyboards), that says something. At the same time, musicians and composers are increasingly conceiving their music as games and interracting with music in ways that are physical rather than abstract.
