On the PC side of things, we at least know what Windows’ next OS will be called. In a ultra-hyped video, you can watch the unveiling. (Were those onstage explosions?) The unveiling of the OS? Well, no. But the unveiling of the OS name, yes.

I’ve heard privately from Windows audio developers that the upcoming release should be no big deal. So you can expect your Ableton, Cakewalk, Native, and other software to work just fine. And personally, I’m excited about a new tablet OS; tablet PCs are great for soft synths, live performance, and music notation. That’s good, because you can’t tell anything from Microsoft’s site:

It enables a new level of confidence in your PC and in your ability to get the most out of it.

It introduces clear ways to organize and use information the way you want to use it.

It seamlessly connects you to information, people, and devices that help you get the most out of life.

Confidence. Yeah, that’s exactly what their marketing hype inspires in me. Oh, well, stay tuned for some actual news, once it happens. (Pyrotechnics not included.)
