First Oympia Noise Co brought us Patterning, and we loved it, now they bring us Patterning 2, the next generation of the circular drum machine. With the same intuitive interface that is both easy to use and deep with features for the experienced producer. Patterning 2 is a whole new app and not an update to the existing version. The new app is on pre-order right now for $14.99.
If I look back at the original, or rather, the current version, it’s an app that has been consistently well received and popular with the iOS community. It’s easy to use and the circular interface is both powerful and intuitive. On a personal level I’ve found this one of my own favourite go to drum machines. Coupled with the extensive library of kits that is available in the app it shows that Olympia Noise Co are very serious about making this app work for users.
In the new version of Patterning we are getting a lot of the features that users have been asking for, and what’s more, some of the logical extensions of where those features would take you. One such is randomisation. Being able to randomise parameters within the app will bring a degree of experimental creativity which I always find of benefit in any sequencing app. Finding happy accidents can give you a really interesting place to start with a pattern, or, bring something fresh to one that perhaps isn’t working as planned.
Of course there’s plenty more in Patterning 2, and I’ve including a full (some might say exhaustive) list of what’s in the new app below.
The one thing that I know will upset some users is that Patterning 2 is a new app. Of course we’d all like to see the original just get updated, but if we’re honest we can all appreciate that it simply isn’t economically viable for a developer to continue to add features to an app for diminishing gains. Many other developers have already gone down this route, and it does have one very significant benefit. It means that great developers like Olympia Noise Co keep on making great apps.
