Something special happened when Unfiltered Audio untethered their effects section from their mind-blowing drum machine Battalion: this delay and reverb opened up to creative rhythmic use everywhere. And for some reason, they’re giving it to us for free. Maybe we’re really good people or something.

Far from a bite off a bigger plug-in, BattleFX has an updated UI and extra effects. Since you’re not inside a drum machine and “choke” becomes meaningless, they’ve added a rhythmic sequencer to the buffers for the reverb and the delay, with a Euclidean generator you can spin around. (Yo dawg, I hear you like Godfried Toussaint…)

Included in the box:

  • Shatter Delay, with those excellent glitch and sample rate controls
  • Headspace Reverb, with intuitive tilt parameters, sample rate and nudge
  • Maximize, itself part of the beloved Battalion sound
  • Clipping options
  • EQ with some character

The rates run synced. It runs free. You can do an impossible amount of stuff with it.

Here’s what I was doing with it last night:

I love Battalion; I want to just take a week off and make an IDM album with it. I also love this sibling. And now you can add “that Battalion effects sound” to other drum machines or really any other part with some transients in it.

To pull a reverse-Mikey Shulman, I have to say, it’s really enjoyable to make music now. I enjoy the entirety of time I spend making music and will spend the majority of it for the next few days adding BattleFX to s***, whether it really particularly belongs there or not.

Honestly you could probably make all the music you need with one metronome source and this effect. Enjoy!
