Sequential, the house Dave Smith built, keeps cramming extras into their instruments for free. Which is their flagship, exactly? Who knows? Who cares? The Pro 3 just got a lot cooler.

First up, there’s a free download of 32 wavetables for the Pro 3, their multi-filter mono synth. Remember that the “three” in Pro 3 is partly for the third oscillator – the digital wavetable that complements the two analog wavetables. (There are also three choices of filter, for flavor.) That’s the kind of combo that melts my heart. The cool thing about the new wavetables is, they got pretty creative with sources, including…:

…the Fairlight IIx, a vintage Sequential Circuits TOM drum machine, dual TAU 20-stage phasers, a boutique Frequency Shifter, an Equinox EQ Phaser, and classic 90’s-era Turbosynth sound design software. Also included are a selection of heavily processed acoustic instruments such as Chapman Stick and human voice.

Huh. Well I unfortunately don’t have a Pro 3 sitting here to try this, but y’all just convinced me to go try and make some more interesting wavetables myself. These then get packed into some 128 new sounds using the wavetables as a starting point.

It’s a SysEx dump, before you try to load this on your other gear.

And don’t forget, last summer Sequential added user wavetables to the Pro 3, so you are in no way limited to these. Check their Wave Generator Utility for that: www.sequentialwaves.com

But wait – Pro 3 owners, after you install that, you’re also going to want to update to version 1.2 of the OS. (Well, maybe – it’s pre-release/beta, so if you’re one of the very small handfuls of folks actually gigging now, go easy – the rest of us can be safely entertained.)

The idea – grab a mod wheel, touch slider, or key pressure, and you can morph between two different sounds, live.

Backup first (only takes a moment), then download:

Well, Sequential, you may have just pushed the Pro 3 to the top of the wish list, thanks to having three filters (Prophet-6, OB-6, and ladder) and now live morphing and extra wavetable goodness. I am genuinely torn between this and the OB-6 as my favorite Sequential-box-o-the-moment.

US$1599 MAP is your starting price on this one.

Sequential also made three new videos:
