Monday is a perfect time to try to shift moods with music, to change the mix. So here’s a melange of Monday mixes … mmmmmmm. (Good God, I’m glad we have music to start the week, as words are generally failing me.) Here’s a bit of what we’re cueing up here – from deep, perk-you-up sounds from Anika and Moderna to richly-diverse experimental sounds via reliq and Erika.

I admire Anika for her uncompromising individualism, whether doing turns as political journalist, music journalist, singer/musician, or DJ. And her taste and point of view come across in crisp definition when she’s on the radio or mixing, too. The “Extra Cheese Bürger Mix” is deep and dubbed and wonderful, hosted by Electronic Beats (who clearly number among her loyal fans). You can read up on her thoughts on music and politics alike, as well as the Geoff Barrow connection, at that site:

For something completely different …

Moderna (Missy Livingston) is here in town in Berlin, far from the California skies, but bringing the sounds of sun and open space and her uniquely-smart taste on musical taste to our nights.

And in advance of a new collaborative project called “The Deep” (see video above), she has a terrific mix, heavily influenced by the US-based label Ghostly International to which she’s signed.

And this isn’t a gentle stroll through the desert; this one has some … energy. If you’re drowsy on this Monday, put this on.

I’ll turn this over to the complete description:

Dancing in the Dust: A Burning Man inspired Mix. Act #22 for Beyeah.net

This mix incorporates a small taste of a desert journey through Black Rock City, Nevada. It is a true survival of being adaptable, free spirited and resilient. From Tycho’s remix of Ulrich Schnauss to the oh so fun and sophisticated Pachanga Boys, then ending with a remix of the first single from Moderna’s collaborative project, “The Deep.” wearethedeep.com

The remixes for the single will be released October 29th. You can get the original mix on iTunes here. itun.es/i6Ff7Cm

So go out, dance and get dusty..

And Erika’s set is the perfect set-up for more out-there music from Berlin’s “avant-doom” trio, made up of grayl [DE], Shaddah [FR], and Xorzyzt [US]. CDM collaborators and design platform SemiDomesticated commissioned the group to do a mix in their new Soundscape series, and the results cross still more sonic territory.
