The STP16 is a 16-step trigger/gate sequencer for Eurorack, with a twist – hocketing! It’s on preorder now for worldwide shipping, coming directly from Kyiv, Ukraine, where MachineRoom remains a haven for sound.
The STP16 has two modes. In 8-step mode, you get two 8-step sequences, conventionally. In 16-step mode, you can control two channels, selecting each part by switch – for nice, interlocking parts. You can also enable a gate mode, which gives you a longer gate signal (instead of just a trigger), so you could control a VCA directly, for instance.
That’s an awfully clever way to get a range of musical possibilities and pattern programming in just 8HP. As it happens, my favorite compact sequencer in modular is also the product of Ukrainian engineering – the Dnipro DOT. Combining the two could give you some interesting possibilities, I think.
You get two independent outputs, “red” and “blue.” I’m actually a little unclear on what the GATE CV does from the description here; I’ve asked for clarification. (Reset and clock input jacks are obvious.)

16 step mode – In this mode STP16 uses «hocketing», in our case it controls two channels using one 3-position switch. In the left position of switches 1-16, the trigger is sent to channel A (blue led), in the right – channel B (red led), the middle position – no signal. In this mode, only one of the channels plays during the step, which allows you to quickly create a rhythmic pattern from two instruments, an example can be a combination of open/closed hi-hats.
8 step mode – A 16-step sequence can be divided into two 8-step sequences using the 8/16 switch, in this case the toggles will work as in a classic sequencer, ON in the right position, OFF in the middle. The mode is convenient when you need corresponded steps of both channels to be played simultaneously. One of the channels can be used to reset the other, shortening the sequence.
The clock signal will be the same for both sequences, Out A will be responsible for the left channel, Out B – for the right.
Switches:
Gate/Trigger – In Gate mode STP16 operates with tied gate signal and can, for example, control a VCA.
Direction (UP/DOWN) – allows you to play the sequence in the reverse direction, works equally in 8 and 16 step modes.
CV controls:
Reset – returns the sequence to step number 1, works equally for both 8 and 16 steps.

Гарна новина для тих, хто вважає, що секвенсорів у єврореку багато не буває. Сьогодні ми (нарешті) випустили наш перший – MachineRoom STP16.
Це 2-х канальний тріг/гейт-секвенсор, зроблений за досить класичною схемою, але з однією особливістю.
У режимі 16-ти степів секвенсор використовує «hocketing», в нашому випадку керує двома каналами за допомогою одного 3-х позиційного світча. В лівому положенні світчів 1-16 тріггер надсилається у канал A (red led) в правому – канал B (blue led), середня позиція відповідає за пропуск тріггера. В цьому режимі протягом степу грає тільки один з каналів, що дозволяє швидко створювати ритмічний малюнок з двох інструментів, прикладом може виступати комбінація open/closed хай-хетів чи бочки та клепа.
Cеквенція довжиной 16 степів за допомогою світча 8/16 може бути розділена на 2 секвенціі по 8 степів, у цьому випадку тумблери будуть працювати як у звичайному секвенсорі, у правому положенні ON, у середньому OFF. Режим зручний, коли потрібно, щоб степи обох з каналів програвались одночасно. Один з каналів можна використовувати для ресету іншого, скорочуючи секвенцію.
Також STP16 можна використовувати як sound source в аудіорейті.
