You’re just relaxing by a peaceful campfire. You hear voices in the distance. Then, like a really chatty zombie invasion… they come. And keep coming. It’s a 3D user interface for BlueSky, but it says something poetic — and hilarious — about the absurdity of social media.
Here’s the originator of this project (don’t know how much vibecoding was involved, but it’s sloppy by design either way):
It’s like if there was a transporter accident between Second Life, IRC, and that sci-fi trope where someone gets mind-reading powers and has to listen to everyone at once. (Come to think of it, we really should have paid attention to those episodes before we all tried to actually be the Borg.)
(That whole thread above is pretty great.)
Enter a BlueSky address at the free website, and you can experience this for yourself (until you absolutely want it to stop):
Be sure to hit ESC for hints and controls. This is fun with a bunch of voices at once, but see what happens when you lower that to 2-4 or even 1.
We could write lots of long-form essays about attention span and social cues and what social media does to our brains. But I think this visualization/interactive rendering pretty much sums up the fundamental issue of everything being in one real-time stream all the time. Cough.
Here’s what happens as I get mobbed by my Throng, just because it’s pretty funny who makes a cameo.
