Eventide has quietly made their excellent H9 CrushStation free for a limited time, with code PIRATE100 — a $99 savings. I’m not sure how long it’ll last, but it’s worth grabbing and we’ve got some tips on mapping PS5 controllers to this and other Eventide plugs. Let’s get crushing.

A couple of plug-in searchers have spotted this. You do need an iLok account (free), which I know is a bad word for some people but has been working plenty reliably for me lately, including through OS updates.

And CrushStation is worth grabbing. This is a raunchy distortion that you can always keep under control, thanks to built-in EQ and compressor and Eventide’s usual precision, plus handy features like an all-important gate control. It’s got a distortion algorithm that sounds distinct from anything else, though you shouldn’t ask me, because I’m a little obsessed with collecting those. (That does include a unique “sag” feature that simulates a dying amp.)

And then there are the H9 performance controls, including hotswitch and ribbon morphing. Eventide’s stuff for me is just always rock-solid live; I typically use a combination of Eventide and Soundtoys if I want to be sure I can rely on things.

This is a long-time favorite, so I already have it. But if you don’t, yes, you should.

There’s a code PIRATE100 but it’s applied automatically when you click the CLAIM OFFER button:

It’s real, the “pirate” mention aside. Arrrr.

But while we’re here, let’s check out the awesomeness of OddKidOut mapping a PS5 controller to live controls and tell me you don’t immediately want to do the same thing. (That’ll work with other H9 series plugs, too, because of their excellent control setups.)

He explains the mapping, but not which tool he’s using. I’m guessing, though, that it’s exactly the one I mentioned last week:

A lot of Eventide’s stuff is on sale at Plugin Boutique, so you could take that PS5 controller mapping and apply it to, say, Crystals or ShimmerVerb or any number of things:
