Oh yeah, somebody remembered to make stuff that’s just fun. Stylophone (Dubreq) is adding to its Pocket Range with an AA battery-powered device that samples, sequences, and adds effects. That puts your sounds under the signature Stylophone stylus — and it looks set to be a breakout hit, if the price is right.

Dubreq has been revitalizing the Stylophone line, of course. But the secret recipe here might be to combine that trademark oddness with everything people loved about gadgets like the Casio SK-1.
Stylophone plus sequence-able sampler has the makings of a real chocolate-and-peanut-butter kind of combo.
And since KORG has been silent on the volca side of things (not to mention Casio themselves), Dubreq has an opportunity. Check the specs:
- Sample from mic or aux input
- Built-in sequencer with four pattern memory slots
- Integrated drum sounds
- Two-octave stylus keyboard with transposition
- Built-in speaker (plus the usual headphone out)
- Sync in/out (I mean, I was thinking about the volcas for a reason)
- 12 built-in effects
Nothing fancy. Definitely a toy. But also exactly the kind of toy that has found its way into records over the years.

Now the big question is, what will this cost? When will you be able to get it? (I’m not even going to touch the topic of trade wars.) All we get for the moment is a waiting list.
But yes, Dubreq, we’re waiting. I even kinda like that construction pylon-orange color.
“Sample the world” is a funny slogan, but yes, sound does vibrate through our breathable M-class atmosphere, so you go for it!

Credit where it’s due — Lasse Eilers at Gearnews caught this before I did, and seems we feel similarly!
