VDMX6 promised new features on a new foundation, and Vidvox is already delivering. Protect the identity of faces in video, remove backgrounds, generate QR codes, and more in this free update to the live visual tool for macOS.

Well, some readers have been complaining this site is too “woke” or “political,” so here – let me make those people have an even worse day. Yes, you can now incorporate footage from a protest and protect faces. Just, you know, if there were something in the world you might want to protest right now. (I have a list if you’re stuck for ideas.)

But that’s just one example. Vidvox are incorporating a ton of new effects – and after the long wait for VDMX6, now the pace of improvements, additions, and fixes is at lightning speed. And this is even before we get to TouchDesigner integration – more on that soon. (Just ran into the lovely Derivative team in Basel; that’s always an honor and a pleasure!)

In v 1.0.4:

  • Blur and pixellate faces (or reverse it, and blur/pixellate the background)
  • Remove background (uses person segmentation)
  • Face overlay (with multiple face support!)
  • QR Code Generator source and effect

Wait, he turned facial recognition off and – I know this man.

Remember how hard this stuff used to be? I imagine in addition to the various practical reasons to do this, some folks will find creative ways of abusing it.

There are also a bunch of fixes including for various Core Image and Syphon bugs.
