Ukrainian-born Zavoloka was a perfect choice to debut the new Waldorf Protein with a jaw-rattling live set. Now you can catch that performance in video — grab a cold Koryfei*, kick back, and enjoy.

I actually was bugging Waldorf for this right after the opening night. This was the first live performance in public ever with the Protein, but I think Waldorf and Zavoloka were meant to find each other as mutual fans — Kateryna had a relationship with Waldorf synths from her earliest days of production. And that’s why it’s so good to see Waldorf get back to its roots, not only its wavetable history, but also the comany’s legacy creating compact and affordable instruments. And, anyway, I’m impressed by the Iridium but even apart from budget, Protein’s the one I’d want to take home.

Zavoloka makes it sound huge. Having heard the pre-Protein version of the same set, the synth fits perfectly in context.

And now is a good time to say again, ISTYNA was one of my favorite releases of 2025.
