Live 12 is here – so now what? Here are twelve other ideas to try out, from timesavers to inspiration sources.

Performance Pack, included with the upcoming Ableton Live 12, is capable of all sorts of feats for using Live as a performance instrument. That includes custom layouts, stored variations, looping in Arrangement, and a way of setting up arrangements on the fly. But it’s easier to see it in action than to explain – so creator Iftah has been laboring on an extensive video manual.

“Known Pleasures”: the Biamp MR/140 spring reverb, best known for its use by Joy Division’s Martin Hannett on Unknown Pleasures, is now available as a series of impulse responses for any reverb and a recreation as Ableton Live device. And that’s a great excuse to talk about the production techniques behind this record.

Videosync, the tool that brings video and visual tools to Ableton Live on macOS, gets a nice update to close out the year. Get your gradient on and mix colors in video as easily as you would tweak a synth or effect.

Ableton has published a tech note on reducing CPU load on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3). This is both a good tip and good news: smaller buffer sizes, which also translate to lower latency, now often reduce CPU usage.

Ableton has announced that their Upgrade Kit for Push 3 is now available. With the launch, they’ve also released two videos, covering the upgrade process and their approach to making their hardware upgradeable.
