Sinevibes’ creations are all gems running on the ultra-compact, ultra-economical KORG NTS-3 kaoss pad (via logue SDK). But the Cache update is an especially big deal, with new reverse, rewind, and scratch modes. Creator Artemiy Pavlov showed us just how.

Cache was designed specifically for the NTS-3, so the whole effect and how you interact with it were created with the kaoss touchpad in mind. It’s constantly recording live sound, then processes that sound through various algorithms – repeat, robotize, time stretch, a vinyl-style stop, and more. You customize the four algorithms you want, then trigger via the four zones on the XY pad, with up to 9 algorithms for each zone.

It’s also using high-quality audio. I mean, part of what I love about some of the old KORG gear is how lo-fi it is, but that does create some restrictions. The NTS-3 and Cache use more modern DSP; it’s not the 90s anymore. There are 4 seconds of 32-bit stereo recording, plus high-quality spline interpolation and multiple fade envelopes to keep everything silky smooth. The DSP nerdery here translates into totally liquid sound.

V1.1 is even smoother, too: Artemiy upgraded the gate filtering algorithm so you get snappier transitions without any break, allowing you to jump between algorithms with ease. That’s in addition to other tweaks; v 1.0.1 added asynchronous buffer initialization for totally silent plugin switching and improved the Stretch algorithm.

And then the are the big features in V1.1. Sinevibes added three new algorithms: Reverse, Rewind, and Scratch, plus revised default settings (loop, reverse, stretch, and stop).

Here’s the walkthrough with Artemiy who is bestrewn as always

Also, a bit shout-out to all Ukrainian developers showcasing at Superbooth. I know that working on musical instruments and tools for musicians can be a real respite in difficult times, and I’m thinking about all your friends and families. (I saw Aircraft Designs, too; if I missed anyone, let me know!) Thinking of the makers who would love to be able to hang out and can’t travel; I hope we can come to you soon.
