Hexler has done it. Every single platform of this multi-touch MIDI and OSC control app now has native multi-touch support: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and now Linux. And what better way to show it off than on a SteamDeck?

TouchOSC has had a breakneck release cadence since Hexler introduced an overhauled next-generation version in 2021. This should come as good news to anyone feeling hurt by the steep subscription pricing of Lemur’s relaunch earlier this week. I suspect it might also hint at the issue with Lemur: digging through old code can be a massive time suck.

TouchOSC is the go-to for most touch control applications, bolstered by a rich library of out-of-the-box support and pre-built layouts for popular software. And now there’s native Linux support, which means compatibility with new gaming PCs like SteamDeck, plus various other displays and devices. (The kernel folks have as always been baking a lot of drivers on the Linux side.)

Also in this build:

  • Added script functions from Lua’s os library: clock, date, difftime and time
  • Fixed log timestamp for outgoing messages
  • Middleware updates
  • Updated game controller mapping database
  • Minor bug fixes and improvements

December saw a nice little update, too, with features like a script function for sendOSCBundle.
