Straight outta Katowice, our friends at D16 Audio Group are celebrating 20 years with an all-new stereo delay: Echolite. And don’t let the “lite” in the name deceive you: this all-new giveaway has some power beneath its simple UI.
Free Friday is a new series — let’s make it so budget doesn’t stop you from finding something to enjoy for the weekend.
This is how to do a freebie properly, too. The site doesn’t so much as ask you for your email address. Just download the installer for Echolite — on its own, not part of some massive installer or app.
And it’s a nice little delay, with a versatile arrangement of stereo spread control, multimode filter with resonance (12 and 24 dB, lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band reject), and feedback. Delay time ranges from 400ms all the way down to 0.1ms — meaning this doubles as a flanger — including sync option and various time divisions. And feedback ranges up to 110%.
D16 always do a nice job with modeling and voicing their stuff, and this is no exception. It would be a secret weapon if I would ever shut up about it. Here’s a great demo — listen to that stereo spread and the delicious flanging, plus some sick preset action.
This isn’t the only freebie from D16. They’ve long offered Frontier for free. It’s a terrific adaptive limiter, my go-to for that job. And it, in turn, got a pretty significant UI and feature update, if it’s been lurking on your drive but you haven’t refreshed lately.
It sounds great:
And people are even using it on OBS (smart):
There are lots of creative uses for this one, too; it’s the kind of thing you easily could pay for —
— but you don’t. And that’s what Free Friday is all abou- hey, no laughing about whether I do this again next week. Free Friday is a state of mind. If you really focus on it, you can manifest it for next Friday. Possibly by writing me, annoyed, if you don’t see it.
Friday: the free Frontier.
Okay… I might make it Free Frthursday just to be weird. Friday is so done. Vrije Dinsdag? Mooch Mondays? Let’s workshop this.
