Today’s MPC 3.8 software integrates the mobile MPC Sample with the MPC family. Bring your MPC Sample projects to your MPC or computer, load MPC tracks onto the MPC Sample, and use MPC Sample effects anywhere.

This really makes the MPC Sample a mobile companion. Even if the MPC Sample is the only standalone device you own, the software on your desktop computer integrates with it, too. It’s honestly the kind of integration that I expect users want. From Akai, today’s update:

  • Load MPC Sample projects directly into MPC (standalone and desktop)
  • Export tracks from MPC to MPC Sample
  • MPC Sample effects now built into MPC
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements

Here’s the video walkthrough:

Now this is mainly advantageous if you’ve got another MPC. DAW export is pretty rudimentary – you just have audio export. I hope Akai follows suit with some other makers and offers, for instance, Ableton Live export support. And while Akai is promising full software integration, it looks like it’s not quite done yet but coming soon. (You’ll see some comments on the video about that.)

All in all, though, this looks great — and there’s really nothing quite like the MPC workflow and integration, if that’s what you’re into. If it’s not quite what you’re into, well, wow, do we have a lot of great choices.
