EboSuite and SenSei, live visual add-ons for Ableton Live, got some nice updates this week. SenSei, the tool that puts the power of Unreal Engine inside Ableton Live, gets a particularly major expansion, with some 27 new plug-ins, including mesh loaders, 3D video effects, visualizers, dynamic surfaces, and a video overlay.

If you’re focused mainly on video and EboSuite, that side got an important refresh, too, with version 2.4 adding reverse video playback in eSampler, plus dynamic autoatable font presets in eText for additional animation options with typography. (The eText feature is Mac-only, though the rest is cross-platform macOS and Windows.)

For its part, SenSei 2.1 is a major update to this Unreal Engine-powered 3D wonderland. Enter meshes and swarms.

Plus, if you haven’t picked these up, they’ve extended their generous intro discount, with EboSuite for €129, SenSei for €139, or the bundle for €239. (There’s also a free demo, meaning a chance to check how it runs on your system.)

For review, here’s what I wrote about SenSei at launch:

Now we get a ton of additions — and I expect widely-requested features.

Six Mesh loaders: From Blender to newer machine learning-powered tools like Meshy.ai, you can now pull in 3D models and manipulate and distort them live, including Mesh Dissolvers and the particle cloud-based Mesh Swarm, plus a Mesh Glitcher. This would be a ton of custom work in Unreal, and they’ve done the heavy lifting for you so you can focus on your models and animation.

Four 3D video effects. This pairs perfectly with EboSuite, and you can also BYO video tool and route in via Spout and Syphon, if you prefer VDMX or Resolume to EboSuite, for instance. (For the uninitiated: Syphon and Spout allow you to move video textures between applications, so you can use video output from one tool as an input for another, just as easily as connecting a camera, etc.)

Video overlay. Fade between your SenSei scene and video from EboSuite or another Syphon or Spout source. That’s also huge, especially for hired gigs, because you can quickly swap back over to any needed content. Or run a live AV show, feature your music video, then swap back to a 3D scene/visualizer. And so on and so forth…

Nine new visualizers for audio.

Three dynamic surfaces.

It’s an older video (i.e., before these updates), but it’s worth checking this starter tutorial in SenSei to see how it all fits together:

I’m really tempted to yell at them about why they made these vertical videos when you’d kind of want to watch this on your bigger desktop screen. But some overviews of both updates:
