Sometimes it’s the little things. Sinevibes’ Switch gate effect plug-in was just updated to 3.1.0 with a new UI and refined controls. That’s a good reminder to use this one, as it’s the easiest way not just to add classic trancegate effects but also generally add gated motion to your tracks.

it’s funny because there are a lot of fancier ways to do this – filters with step sequencers, dedicated gate/curve apps with a bunch of controls, and then full-blown laboratories like Arturia _EFX MOTIONS. (And it’s great – see review.) But Switch is like one sharp matte knife to those sprawling toolkits and multi-tools. It’s just a set of step sequencers you can trigger. There’s a simple set of timing controls at bottom, plus this bunch of handy operations (if you click the “…” button at left):

But I’m glad to see an update – even if just a nicer UI – as it’s great to have the reminder to use this. So, let’s cue it up for the last days of January.
And Artemiy at Sinevibes has added some nice videos as inspiration.
I had some fun last night mixing Switch with the Bass Station and Wobble plug-ins I reviewed recently. (Total coincidence that both Artemiy and I went there; we did not coordinate!)
Now, all that said, this gorgeous design does call out for a companion that does pitch / curves with the same UI. Swoosh? Twist?
