Soundtoys is supporting LGBTQIA+ communities by giving 100% of every purchase today and tomorrow, June 25th and 26th, to Lambda Legal. Here’s more on that organization, and in case you are going on a shopping spree for yourself for charity, a look back at the latest tips and resources on Soundtoys stuff on CDM.
Private corporations and tech in particular (see Gizmodo) are backing off pride this year for political expediency, as reported by The Conversation, Advocate. And as for random brands just showing up for the party, some of that legitimately won’t be missed. But LGBTQIA+ communities are an essential part of music-making and music development. Our community and industry simply break down when these communities are under attack; we need inclusion and equality, and our history is inseparable from that struggle.
I’ve covered Soundtoys’ ongoing fundraisers for everything from local flood relief to earthquakes in Morocco. I hope we can all find more opportunities like this for our projects and do it in a way that makes a material impact, reporting transparently on results. Lambda Legal is doing some essential work – see their story below. And if you’re reading this after the sale is past or want to give directly, which is always important, that link is below.
This includes purchases on single plug-ins, bundles, and gift cards in case you want to give someone else some tools!
As they put it:
We believe everyone deserves to feel seen, safe, and celebrated for who they are. Soundtoys stands with the LGBTQIA+ community and anyone who’s ever had to fight to be themselves. Creativity thrives when people are free to express their full identity, without fear or apology.
Lambda Legal, putting up the good fight
Here’s some good viewing from the folks at Lambda Legal, including what to know about passports.
MSNBC has covered their campaigns:
And if you want 20 minutes or so of Pride Month viewing about how these kind of legal battles can win justice and human rights, here’s some history from 1998. (aka ABCDM 6… ah I remember dealing with NuBus Pro Tools cards in that year.) It’s a great watch, and a reminder of not just what’s at stake, but what victories can look like.
In 1998, on a September night in Houston, police stormed into John Lawrence’s home and arrested him and Tyron Garner for violating Texas’ “homosexual conduct” law. “Overruled!” highlights their story and the courtroom drama behind Lawrence v. Texas — the case that led the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down all remaining state sodomy laws and launched a new era in the LGBT rights movement.

Now, we should also make sure readers get this stuff working on your music, so I figured instead of just link the sale, let’s round up some of what I wrote about lately. If you were quick, you got a couple of these for free at the time. (Give that cash you saved to Lambda Legal!) Of course, these are also in some of the bundles, etc.
